After 5 years of being a stay-at-home mom, I found the wonder of mothering slowly starting to get crowded out by the mundane feeling. I realized our world seems to surround people with the negative, and complaining about blessings seems totally acceptable. So I decided to fight against that "normalcy" and focus only on the positive. I look back to my first year as a mom when everything was new and keeping house was fun and I aim to have that attitude again. This blog is my outlet to showcase the daily miracles that surround me in my blessed life as a stay-at-home mom so that I will never forget the wonder of it all.

Sum it up Saturdays

When I love something, I tend to want to throw myself into it, and rarely tire of it.  I think of it constantly, make plans for it, dream of it, etc.  For example, I love to garden and sew.  When its Spring and we are FINALLY planting our jiffy tray sprouts into the garden, I would let everything go...laundry, home school, dishes, meals....if I could just be in the garden all day.  Of course I can't do that so I have to try to remember that other things exist.  But its hard.

I've often thought "I WISH I'd just get the home schooling bug!"  That and the read my Bible every day bug.  That would be great.  For years I've wished I loved home schooling so much that I dreamt about it (and not in a nightmare kind of way), and wanted to let everything else go just so we could get in one more chapter of Story of the World.  I'm not quite there yet, but I feel like something is stirring!  And trust me, I'm going to help that stirring along ALL I can.  So, I've decided to start "Sum it up Saturdays" where I will post what we've done all week in our little home school.  It will be a good place for me to record our accomplishments so that, on the hard days, I can look back and see that we ARE making progress.  It will also, simply, be a place to record our progress in case the dreaded "they" ever ask for proof on what all these kids do at home all day long.  And, like a garden journal, it will be a good place to simply mark time.  That way, I can look back when its time to do Hooked on Phonics K with Kian, and see the simple little things I did to make it fun with Lissy when she was in HOP K.

Also, I THRIVE off of accountability.  So, I'm hoping to get other bloggers to join in on "Sum it up Saturdays".  I'm not going to create a "link up party."  For one, I have no clue how to do that.  And two, I like my simple little blog.  Link ups seem distant.  I'm hoping other Mamas will leave comments and/or share a link to their "Sum it up Saturdays" post in my comments area.  That way we can have a growing conversation in the comments area as well as links to each others' blogs where we can go see what we're all up to, therefore gaining ideas, inspiration, and accountability.

I hope all my home schooling Mama blog friends will consider joining in.  I'd love to learn more about what you all do each week so that we can encourage one another, learn from one another, and, when needed, commiserate with one another.

I'm looking forward to this Saturday.
Will you join me?

  5. Hi, I am a new follower having found your blog linked from Mama Gone Green (see above). You have a lovely family and I commend you for homeschooling! I am not a home schooler, but have a lot of respect for those who do it well. I am a public school teacher with three of my four kids already grown up. I also have six grandkids who look to be about the same age as yours. Will look forward to your fun Saturday Sum It Ups. I so something similar most week, although not a home schooler. Thanks for sharing.
