How many kids are blessed enough to have a Great Grandpa who ASKS to go camping with them?
How many kids get to sit around the fire listening to their Great Grandpa sing songs he once sang to their Mama when she was their age?
How many kids sit and listen as their Great Grandpa tells stories of when he lived in the very mountains they are camping in?
How many kids have a Great Grandpa who is willing to lug camping chairs down the river to "just the right spot"?
I don't know.
But my kids are 3 kids who ARE blessed in this way.
This is our much beloved "Papa". He is "Papa" to everyone.....me, my sisters, our children, the church kids, my friends in their 30s. He is "Papa" to all.
And obviously very loved by my kids, as you can tell by Kian's expression in this picture.
Naming Kian after my Papa was one of the best decisions we've ever made. It's so special, especially since Kian is obsessed with Papa. He has been from very early on. He prays for Papa EVERY meal and bedtime. He carries around a matchbox car that is his "Papa car" because it looks like Papa's real car, and he asks me multiple times a day, "where's Papa." No joke...EVERY day!
Needless to say, we were all very excited when Papa asked to join us on Kian's birthday camping trip.
In addition to our adventures with Papa, there was lots of bike riding, boat making (and bombing), outdoor dish washing, creek playing, and lots of hot chocolate.
We had a GREAT time. Though on our last morning, one little two year old was pretty ready to head home. :)
Wonderful memories!
So fun! My kiddos still have 2 great grandmas, which I think is pretty amazing. My great grandma died only pretty recently (about 5 years ago), and it was so wodnerful to grow up knowing her. Looks like the camping trip was great. I am jealous!!
