After 5 years of being a stay-at-home mom, I found the wonder of mothering slowly starting to get crowded out by the mundane feeling. I realized our world seems to surround people with the negative, and complaining about blessings seems totally acceptable. So I decided to fight against that "normalcy" and focus only on the positive. I look back to my first year as a mom when everything was new and keeping house was fun and I aim to have that attitude again. This blog is my outlet to showcase the daily miracles that surround me in my blessed life as a stay-at-home mom so that I will never forget the wonder of it all.

Felicity's New Mama Made Dress

After making Felicity three jumpers which she now refuses to wear, I got nervous about sewing for her.  In the last two weeks she's suddenly become extremely picky on what she wants to wear.  I can no longer pick out her outfits for her, and picking outfits out for herself usually takes a good deal of time, a good deal of trying on this and that, and a good deal of a mess left over once the perfect outfit is chosen.

I'm working on being patient with her new burst of opinions.  Actually, its the mess of clothes all over her room that I'm working on being patient with.

The other day I timidly made her a dress I hoped she'd love.
Mission accomplished!

This dress is very Lis.
A bow in the back....

....a nice full skirt....

....buttons on the bodice.....


....and rick rack on the hem.

She's in love with it.
And so am I.

I have had a vision of this dress in my head since Felicity was a year old.  I wanted to make her a vintage print dress with a blue background, red accents, and yellow rickrack.  I wanted it to look like a "Kit dress", referring to the American Girl Doll, Kit.

I am thrilled to see my vision come to life.
And in true Felicity form, this dress has been worn for two days straight, even to bed.  A slight fight ensued when her Daddy told her she couldn't wear it again today.  My promise that I'd wash it so it was fresh for Grammy's party tomorrow was the only way we got it off her without a fit.

    i can totally relate to this little girl's dressing issues.
    though, i admit, i've learned to hang it back up it it just doesn't feel right.
    and then yes, i, too, wear it 18 days straight.

    Great job! The color looks wonderful with her red hair!! I still have yet to sew sleeves... I am a bit afraid!

    Taryn, these sleeves are my first and they are a raglan style and SOOOOOOO easy. They basically become an extension of the dress and in a sense, elongate the neckline. Then that whole long neckline is made into a casing and elastic thread through it. Very hard to explain but it was super easy for my first sleeve and I'd suggest doing a raglan style sleeve for your first go at it. You can make Fin a shirt with those style sleeves.
